Rumors say that the Windows Embedded Compact 7 OS for tablets is in tests at Microsoft right now, a logical move, considering that Google already has an Android version designed to be used in tablets.

Windows Embedded Compact 7, the operating system for tablets from Microsoft, will be presented first to the Microsoft partners and developers in July, according to unconfirmed rumors. The first source cited by Business Insider said that the tablet interface will be inspired by the design of Windows Phone 7.

A Windows platform for tablets would be a logical move after Google released Android 3.0 for tablets, a different software platform from the one used for smartphones. However, this is unlikely to be ready until June, as Microsoft is working in cycles of about three years to achieve a new operating system. It is possible however, that Windows 7 Phone will be ready sooner.

Microsoft released the first service pack for Windows Vista, as a Release Candidate. This means it’s not ready yet for an official launch, but more as one of the final test versions, with most of the bugs fixed.

Further more, this Release Candidate will cease to function on June 30th, 2008, so you should uninstall it before that day.

Most of the new things brought by this service pack are fixes in performance, new drivers and extra support for emerging standards.
